Send Grantcoin on Twitter!
Grantcoin (GRT) is a digital currency that’s distributed into circulation by a charitable nonprofit organization as grants to reward social good.
Specifically, we focus on incentivizing sustainable business and people and organizations that are working for environmental protection and human wellbeing. We also give grants to artists and musicians. The Grantcoin Foundation believes that the system of how money works should be designed for the public benefit, so we have created an alternative currency based on these principles.
Anyone on Twitter can send and receive Grantcoin without needing to download or install any software. You can use your Twitter account as a web-based Grantcoin wallet and send the currency with a simple tweet!
What Can I Do with Grantcoin?
Grantcoin is meant to be used as a real-world currency for buying and selling goods and services and giving to worthy recipients. Here are some ideas for how to use it:
- Pay it forward. Grantcoin is perfect for social tipping and microgrants. Whenever you see a tweet you especially like, or a person, organization or cause you want to support, show them they’re #grantworthy by tweeting them some Grantcoin.
- Spend it in GrantMarket. Coming soon, the Grantcoin Foundation will be launching an online store where people can buy products from socially and environmentally responsible businesses. Customers will be able to pay using U.S. dollars, Bitcoin, or Grantcoin. If you have only a small amount of GRT, you can tweet it to @GrantMarket after your purchase and we will rebate you the funds in the currency of your choice, like a coupon.
- Save it as an investment. Grantcoin is very new — it only launched in May, 2015. As more and more people learn about it and begin to use it, its value might increase. Grantcoin is an innovative idea, both technologically and in terms of the socioeconomic philosophy of the currency, which is about building a people-powered alternative monetary system to create a more just, humane, and sustainable world economy. If you like the idea and believe it has long-term potential, you might want to save some GRT for the future.
You can also exchange Grantcoin for various other currencies, including U.S. dollars, euros, Bitcoin, and more, on several online exchanges.
